Returning Home

Its almost midnight. I’ve been in Florida since Friday, and here it is almost Tuesday. I have had some fun throughout the weekend but this was a company conference so there was plenty of meetings to be a part of.

Of all the things going through my mind, one thought stands above all; I’m ready to go home. And by that i mean all aspects of home. Work, and seeing how things have gone in my absence. Home, to see my boys and my loving wife whom all I have missed these last few days. But also to take what I have seen and learned and to apply it.

All that said, I hope that my flight home is uneventful and easy. I also hope that once I am home, I can get back into my writings and go from there. I hope everyone is having a fantastic week!

Saying “Hello” From Florida

I’m up early on a beautiful Saturday morning in the state of Florida. I’m at a resort called Gaylord Palms, which is lovely. I might be staying with some stranger in the double room here but I didn’t figure I would have slept so well.

Yesterday was interesting. If you have read my previous post, you would know that yesterday I flew for the first time. Went from Abilene Regional Airport to the DFW, connected flight to florida. The flights both went very well, though I thought my ears were going to burst on the descent into florida.

Now I’m going to go and get started on all the wonderful events I’m here for. Catch you all on Tuesday once I’ve returned!

Apprehensive

Today is the first time I will have ever flown. I’m apprehensive, but also excited at the same time.

The mixed feelings stem from a long wish to fly the world and a real worry caused by years of news of missing or crashing flights. I cant remember if it was the first Final Destination or one of the subsequent ones, but in it the very first scene involved a plane crash of some type. So I image that a lot of people are equally as mixed about flying as I am.

I’m just hoping that both flights today and my one for next week are all equally uneventful and fun.

Wish me luck!

Testing Wine…

Red wine and heart health, is it true?
I can’t give you a definitive answer without first looking at the case studies. A short Google search of “Is red wine really good for you [r health]” will pull up a few results stating that yes, in moderation, it “can” be good for you.

But doesn’t mean I liked the first couple of bottles I’ve tried over the years!

I’ve never been much of a drinker. I’d enjoy a few whiskey and cokes a year, but that had always been my limit before. But can I say I avoid all alcohol? No. Fancy dinners can call for a nice glass or two, especially at Olive Garden (or other places similar in style) when you know you’re spending a pretty penny with your significant other.

But I never was a big fan of red or white wines. Whites are a no go for me, period. Just can’t stand them, their taste or texture or flavor. But I have started to become somewhat adjusted to reds. Somewhat, because I haven’t tried more than a Cabernet Sauvignon or a Merlot.

I have found one that tastes easily enough on the pallet and isn’t half bad for an after taste. It’s a Spanish table wine called Sangeria. In short sips it went well, and isn’t strong enough for a buzz in a single glass, which is good for me. Maybe after getting used to wine, I can try to sample into other styles and find some that go well with the healthier foods I do need to start eating before too long, but that’s some time off.

Do you have a favorite wine to share? I’d love to hear about it, or your thoughts on the supposed health benefits of red wine in general!

(I’m Still) Waiting

Waiting for the day they announce the next President to see if I’m wrong, for once.

Election years are never fun. Everyone says it’s always about ‘choosing the lesser of two evils’, or ‘the brightest of two turds.’

But this election year is different. It’s not just the lesser of two turds, but literally the biggest pissing contest I have ever seen. And I barely follow it! Everyone is talking about how racist, bigoted, and narcissistic Donald Trump is, how he does in his business practices (most facts being at least a decade or two old, actually).

Then there’s the Clinton. Strange disappearances, the email scandal, among other things. Neither ‘choice’ is good. But the other ‘choices’ aren’t as good either.

Now I’m sure everyone is sick of all of it. I know I am. The truth is, I am pretty sure that it will be the Clinton as president. A “major victory” in women’s rights, feminism will take the banner with pride, blah blah blah. The reason I say this is as follows:

Trump is running the WORST possible campaign. It is tearing down everything all the major movements of the last century has tried to build up. Racism will ensure he loses the seclusion groups like LGBT and others. He is currently being called the face of women’s rapists, thus losing the female vote. Latinos disagree with his wall building statements from the beginning, thus another major voting group going blue… like this guy was built to lose against Hilary.

Am I the only one who sees this? The destruction of the pattern? Usually the presidential seat goes from Republican  (Bush Sr., Bush Jr., though it goes further back than them) to Democrat (Clinton after Sr., Obama after Jr.) This pattern also follows the same thing in Congress, switching from one majority to the other depending on who is president during their elections.

Unless the public gets swayed in one way or the other, I don’t see it possible for Trump to truly win the election without a major revolution afterwards. But is Clinton really the best option to choose?

Honestly, no, but that’s who will win by a sudden landslide once the votes start pouring in.

Content on Repeat

Repeat

Rinse, lather, follow the pattern

I feel like social media, namely the big F, is following a pattern of repeat as of late. Shares and reshares, new comments move old content upwards. Like a spiral of repeat reading that has my mind unbelievably saddened and even more so… bored.

Rinse and repeat, though my selection of “friends” is few and personal, it seems even liking multiple pages doesn’t offer respite from the repeats. Even worse, when said pages repeat the same content within days, weeks, or even months old. And the cycle concludes with the same resounding feeling before I leave the big F.

Maybe I am not following the right people.

The Dark Side of Things

So I was writing a blog post the other day that was definitely different from my usual writings and musings. It was a rather dark and gritty story with torture and death the likes you won’t find in any of my other stories. Not that it was a bad thing.

But then I went back and re-read it and thought about it for two days. I have decided not to post the short story for a very good reason. It is too adult for the kind of content I release on my blog. So instead, I’m going through a second drafting phase on the story in question to add more to it. When I feel that it is done to the “t”, I will be submitting it to magazines and such that look for those kinds of stories and hope for publication.

Let’s just see how this goes from here, haha! Hoping for good outcomes, no matter how morbid this story gets after a couple drafting phases and a good solid edit. Now back to my (ir)regularly scheduled programming.
